Notes from the Board
Since 1943 the California Maritime Academy (CMA) has been located on 89 acres of land next to the Carquinez strait in South Vallejo. At the February 25, 2017 VHNA General Meeting the guest speaker, Professor Scott Green of the CMA, will provide information about the CMA, its purpose and programs. He will also explain the training that cadets, in their first and third years, receive from licensed faculty officers during the annual, two-month Training Cruise aboard the T.S. Golden Bear.
During these periods at sea, intellectual learning, applied technology, and leadership skills are developed as cadets apply what they have learned in the classroom, in the lab, in the Corps, and on the waterfront. The CMA training results in the highest employment rate in the entire California State University system, with 92 to 94 percent of students employed within three months of graduation.
The VHNA General Meeting will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Mira Community Cultural Center, 51 Daniels Avenue in Vallejo from 10:00 am to Noon. Refreshments and Moschetti Coffee will be provided by the VHNA and its members. Please mark your calendar to attend this meeting, and also bring a neighbor, to meet Professor Green.
