Notes from the Board
Vallejo is fortunate to be adjacent to the natural beauty of the Napa River, San Pablo Bay and their wetlands and estuaries that provide important wildlife habitat. The Cullinan Ranch Restoration Project, that is currently underway, will restore over 1,500 acres of tidal wetlands in the San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge. On January 6, 2015 restoration efforts reintroduced tidal water to Cullinan Ranch for the first time in over 100 years.
At the VHNA General Meeting on February 28, 2015 you will have the opportunity to learn more about the Cullinan Restoration Project from our guest speaker, Don Brubaker, the North Bay Sub-Complex Manager for the San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge. In addition, Mr. Brubaker will provide information on the Antioch Dunes, a 55 acre refuge for the Antioch Dunes evening primrose, the Contra Costa wallflower, and the Lange’s metalmark butterfly.
The VHNA General Meeting will be held at the Mira Cultural Community Center located at 51 Daniels Avenue in Vallejo, February 28, 2015 from 10:00 am to Noon. Refreshments and Moschetti coffee will be served. Bring a neighbor with you to meet Mr. Brubaker and learn about the amazing natural world located so close to Vallejo.
